Congratulations to
CORN CHALLENGE 2004
CHAMPION
and
CORN CENTURION

MATTHEW MAAS

Only 1 word can describe Matt's performance in Corn Challenge 2004... dominant. Despite a relatively weak finish, Matt had already built himself a more-than-comfortable lead over his fellow Challengers, especially those who gave up after the first few weeks.

Matt is also the 4th-ever Corn Centurion, having eaten over 100 ears of corn during the Challenge, joining John Hagemann, Vincenzo Campisi, and Martin Rivas.

Big Bill Graham posted an admirable 2nd half, and once again, Original Challenger Martin Rivas was the only Challenger not to post a zero in any week of the 14-week marathon that is the BTA Corn Challenge.

Congratulations, Matt!

Mr. Maas proudly wears his Corn Challenge Yellow Jersey at BTA Hall-of-Fame Weekend 12. Matt never relinquished his dominant lead in Corn Challenge 2004.

Fellow Corn Challenger and AcreHead Jay Ernst recoils in amazement at the sight of Mr. Maas' many corporate sponsorships, and at his manly physique. Mr. Ernst posted a top-5 finish in Corn Challenge 2004.

(OUT OF CHALLENGE... no totals reported for 8 weeks)

PARTICIPANTS: Report your weekly total of corn eaten every Monday during the contest by e-mailing us... totals that are sent in more than one week late will not be counted.

CORN
CHALLENGE
OFFICIAL
RULES!

Declare your intention to enter the Challenge by e-mailing us. All entries must be received by June 20th, 2004.

Eat as many corn-on-the-cobs as you can between 4th-of-July Weekend and October 10th, 2004. Contestant who eats the most ears will be crowned the Corn Champion. In the event of a tie, co-champions will be crowned. The Corn Champion(s) will receive the Corn Champion Trophy. Anyone eating 100 ears or more will be crowned a Corn Centurion and will receive a trophy marking their achievement.

Report your weekly total of corn eaten every Monday during the contest by e-mailing us...
totals that are sent in more than one week late will not be counted.

An interactive chart showing the contestants and number of corn-on-the-cobs eaten will be posted on this page and updated every Tuesday during the Challenge... follow along, it's fun!

You will be trusted to be honest when reporting your weekly totals... if you cheat, all you're doing is cheating your fellow contestants and yourself out of what is supposed to be a fun contest.

If a contestant fails to report totals for 8 consecutive weeks, he or she will be considered OUT of the Corn Challenge.

For the purposes of the Challenge, 1 ear of corn will equal a full-length cob of corn as it naturally appears on the stalk. Any cut ears will count as 1/2 an ear if they are of a reasonable size as determined by the judge (Mart). Anything smaller than 1/2 an ear is deemed UNACCEPTABLE and will not count at all. Green Giant 1/2 cobs of corn ONLY COUNT AS 1/2 AN EAR... Kentucky Fried Chicken cobs are legit... the little-bitty corn cobs in Chinese Food DO NOT COUNT (sorry Tombie)!

In the event of any disputes, the disputees will be disqualified. No crybabies in Corn Challenge! NONE!

A Tradition Returneth.

The Betty's Twisted Acres Corn Challenge came into being about 14 years ago when Mart made up his mind to try to eat 100 ears of corn between Memorial Day and Labor Day... Betty tried to help him out by growing corn in her yard and instructing him to make each of her ears count as two. Mart never made it to 100, but he sure had a lot of fun (and corn) trying...

In 1999, Mart decided to open up the Corn Challenge to friends stupid enough to try it, and he was shocked to see just how many stupid friends he had.

2000 brought the first-ever Corn Centurion (person who eats 100 ears or more) in John Hagemann, and the Championship went to Vincent Campisi, who ate 142.5 ears, almost DOUBLE what Mart would eat in those early years going it alone.

2001 saw the Corn Challenge for Charity, which was interrupted by the events of September 11th.

A 3-year layoff is long enough... we'll do it just for fun this time around.
